Cumming
Cumming, Georgia, is a suburb of Atlanta. It is located in Forsyth County. According to the 2010 Census, the population of Cumming was 5,430. At the time of the 2000 census, the population was 4,200. The city is an easy drive from Atlanta, and offers a wide variety of residential and commercial amenities.
Cumming is a growing community and continues to add amenities as the population grows. For example, the city is working on creating a City Center in downtown Cumming. This would include small entertainment venues, restaurants, and shopping. The idea is to turn the area into a community hub and bring back the charm of small-town Southern living.
The town is also home to Lake Lanier, a lake with 37,000 acres of surface area. This lake was formed when the Chattahoochee River was dammed in 1956. Before Reconstruction, Cumming was a small, rural town. It was largely ignored by the news media. However, it was home to two fires, the first in 1900 and the second in 1973. The town also gained national recognition for being racially intolerant in 1912, when a case of a black man sexually assaulted a white woman led to riots, a series of murders, and the expulsion of nearly the entire Black community.
Cumming is located in Forsyth County, Georgia. It is home to approximately 6,280 people. The town has excellent schools and a rich Cherokee history. The town was originally inhabited by the Cherokee tribes around 1755. A battle between Cherokee and Creek tribes took place here. It lasted two years, but in the end, the Cherokee won the land and moved to the area.
The town is also home to many outdoor recreation opportunities. There are many hiking trails in the area and views of Lake Lanier and the Sawnee Mountain Preserve.
